Hibr.me / حبر لبناني >> Logo Design Competition

  • Miscellaneous

We have some winners!  After careful deliberation by the Hibr team, a logo was selected, now seen up top this page! Special thanks to Elie Abou Jamra & Mirna Hamady for their great logo submission!

Check out all the submitted logos here.

(from Nov 10, 2009)

Thanks to all who submitted logos!  We got about 40 submissions so far, with a lot of variety and from all sorts of different people.  However, we still want MORE.  We are extending the deadline by one month, and pushing to get young people from all around Lebanon involved.  We want submissions from EVERY university campus, and every design program in the country, plus young people of Lebanese descent living abroad. (Of course other non-design students are also invited to participate!)  In short, we want YOU to participate, and then get your friends and classmates to participate.  Please spread the word. The new deadline is Sunday, December 13th. We will not extend beyond that, so be sure to get your logo submission in before then. In the meanwhile, we are putting up all the logo submissions we are receiving. Please feel free to comment on the page or by sending us an email (design@hibr.me). For those who submitted, you are welcome to submit another design, or modify/build on your original design. We will continue to put up logos on our site as we receive them, so please keep sending the designs.  (Since it is possible to submit more than one design and to modify your designs, it is to YOUR advantage to submit the designs early and get feedback from us or others, and then you can change the design and submit again, as you like.) REMEMBER: The logo should represent the identity of Hibr. All details up on our site: www.hibr.me/logodesign Hurry up and make Hibr look like the youth of Lebanon... represent yourself! Hibr Core Team

(from September, 2009)

Hibr Lubnani (Lebanese Ink) is holding a Logo Design Competition for young designers and university students with budding talent. The logo has to pertain to Hibr's identity of citizen journalism, youth activism, social networking and technology, creativity, independence, and innovation. This media outlet is a platform for youth and citizens to publish stories that are critical and relevant to them, and to voice their opinions independent of any political or sectarian group.  Logo submissions should reflect that identity and those values, and must abide by the restrictions and objectives below.

HIBR LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION RULES:

I. Organizer: The Hibr Logo Design Competition is organized and conducted by the Hibr Multimedia Team, who make up the final decision-makers in the selection process.

II. Eligibility: Any resident in Lebanon or person of Lebanese descent abroad (with or without Lebanese citizenship) 30 years old and younger (as of the submission deadline) is eligible to participate in the Hibr Logo Design Competition.  The entrants can submit their entries individually or in the name of the groups. There is no limit for the number of entries each individual or group submits.

III. Design Requirements: While we encourage creativity and flexibility, the logo submissions should generally reflect the following design principles: - Includes the name and website in the logo (or having some versions of the logo that integrate the website into the logo) - Includes the name in both Arabic and English (Hibr/حبر) - A "living logo", with elements that could be easily changed/adapted/modified - Looks good BIG and small - Looks good in color and black and white IV. Submission Information, Deadlines, and Fees: The deadline for the Hibr Logo Competition is 4:00pm, November 13th, 2009. Logo submissions can be sent by email (preferred) or by mail/delivery: EMAIL:  Send to <design@hibr.me> with the subject line: "Hibr Logo Entry + the main designer's name" (all files should be less than 5MB) DELIVERY: Send hard-copy or digital (CD or USB) versions of the logo submission to the Hibr office (Chawkatly Building, 6th Floor; Charles Helou Street, Saifi/Marfaa; Beirut, Lebanon)

All submissions should include high-resolution versions of the logo, and in a standard file format (Illustrator, Photoshop, JPG, or PDF).

Each design submission should include the following information: the names of everyone on the design team, city of residence, any university affiliation, phone/email contact information.  Each submission should also include a brief description of the design concept in less than 300 words.

Entry is free, and people/groups can submit as many entrees as desired.  V. Judging Procedure and Criteria

1) Judging Procedure: The first round of judging will be completed by Nov 15, 2009.  Top entries will be placed online and exhibited for public input. The final decision will be made before November 20, 2009.

2) Judging Criteria: (1) The logo should be unique in style, have strong visual impact, and reflect the values and identity of Hibr. (2) The logo should follow the design guidelines as written above.   (3) All the entries should be original and never published before. VI. Prizes

1) All the top entries will receive commendation and recognition on the website and in the print edition of Hibr.

2) One First Prize winner will be selected and will receive 453,750 LL cash, a commemorative certificate issued by Hibr, plus ongoing recognition on the Hibr website, with a link to the designer's website or online portfolio, and inclusion of the design brief and other information about the design and designer on the Hibr website.   VII. Copyright information

1). All the entrants must have the full, complete and exclusive copyrights of their entries, and must not use any trademarked or copyrighted material in their design submissions. In the case that any entry violates another's copyright, the entrant bears full responsibility for resolving the issue.  Hibr has no responsibility for this.

2.) Once a submission is delivered to Hibr, Hibr has full rights to exhibit, promote, and utilize the logo, both during the competition period and after the competition is over. After the competition is over, each individual designer may use and display his/her own designs for non-commercial purposes (for example, for inclusion in a portfolio).

3.) All designers maintain authorship of their designs, and fair attribution will be given to designers when designs are used by Hibr. VIII. Contact: Please email entries or any questions to: design@hibr.me
