After a successful first season, Shankaboot (the first Arabic-language web drama) had its official launch concert at Beirut’s Lunapark in Manara on Saturday, June 12. The event started at 8:30pm with tickets selling for 12, 000 LL in advance and 15 000 LL on the door.

According to Dima Tannir, online copywriter and head designer of Shankaboot, approximately 1,000 people attended the event.DJ Scarface was the first to rock the night; people were still arriving during his gig, looking forward to the night’s line-up. Early on in the evening, previous episodes of Shankaboot, which was produced by Batoota Films in association with the BBC World Service Trust, were screened on big screens while stands sold hotdogs, snacks and cotton candy. Behind the park, a bar was selling drinks to the crowds. An hour in, Suleiman, the star of Shankaboot, a 15-year-old delivery boy,

    Placebo’s unwelcome visit to Lebanon

Submitted by EnglishEditor on Fri, 06/11/2010 - 18:25

On Tuesday June 9 the rock band Placebo performed in Forum de Beyrouth, a permanent multipurpose center for various types of events, including gigs, fairs and exhibitions. The event took place despite the fact that Lebanese activists had called for a sit-in a couple of hours before the performance, demanding a boycott of the British rock band. The boycott was called following lead vocalist Brian Molko’s endorsement of Israel during an interview with an Israeli journalist after performing in Tel Aviv on June 5th.

Car and motorcycle clubs have been popular in the United States since the early 1960s. Such clubs bring together people who own the same kind of machinery for events, road trips and shows.

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 05/06/2010 - 19:12

Submitted by shilal on Sun, 05/02/2010 - 12:55

That’s the way I 'laïque' it

Submitted by masamra on Tue, 04/27/2010 - 12:26

    Laïque Parade
Around 5,000 people marched for secularism on Sunday in Lebanon’s first ever event of this sort, an event with no political slogans and no political parties’ flags. The marchers were just individuals and activists from neutral political movements.

This unprecedented news wasn’t properly covered – if covered at all by Lebanese local news. This was not surprising considering that all Lebanese channels are owned by sectarian political leaders.

    Today is Earth Day!

Submitted by EnglishEditor on Thu, 04/22/2010 - 19:33

With contributions from Heather Jaber and Sarah Harfouch

Today is Earth Day! All around the world all sorts of events are taking place to raise awareness about the environment. Today, Google's logo, or the 'Google Doodle' as it sometimes referred to, is camouflaged in a parrot-filled forest, possibly in reference to the fact that 2010 is also the International Year of Biodiversity.
